Boobs & Brass is an all-female brass band founded 19 years ago by two cornet players, Jane and Margaret, who shared a passion for music and fundraising. Since their first concert in 2006, the band has raised around £275,000 mainly for Breast Cancer Now and other charities too. Much of the funding for Breast Cancer now has gone directly into research. Every member volunteers their time and covers their own expenses to perform, creating something truly special.
For one of their charity concerts, I had the opportunity to apply my design skills to create a full set of promotional materials including the posters, tickets, and programmes for the eventhelping to support an amazing event and raise money for both Breast Cancer Now and Doncaster Mind.
Before starting the designs, I put together a mood board to capture the overall look and feel I wanted for the Boobs & Brass charity concert. I focused on key ideas like hope, strength, and celebration to reflect the band’s incredible journey and the meaning behind the event.
The band's signature colour is bright pink, reflecting their bold spirit and connection to breast cancer fundraising. I made sure to carry this vibrant colour through all the designs to create a cohesive and energetic visual identity that stayed true to Boobs & Brass.
I designed these tickets to match the overall look and feel of the Boobs & Brass charity concert materials, keeping the bright pink colour and bold style consistent. I wanted them to feel special and memorable — something people might want to keep as a reminder of such an inspiring event.
It was also important to make sure all the key event details, like the start time, venue, and fundraising information, were clearly included so attendees had everything they needed at a glance.
The programmes needed to be well-presented and provide audience members with information about Boobs & Brass and the important causes the concert was supporting. It was important to capture all the details accurately and organise everything clearly, so the audience could easily follow along and learn more about the event.
Alongside the evening’s musical programme, the booklet also featured a fantastic range of advertisements from local businesses who generously donated to support the cause. Their contributions not only helped fundraise for Breast Cancer Now and Doncaster Mind but also added a real community spirit to the event.
Programmes were sold on the night for £3, making a lovely keepsake for those who wanted to remember such a special evening.
The posters played a key role in spreading awareness about the Boobs & Brass charity concert. I designed them to be bold, bright, and eye-catching, making sure all the important information — including how to buy tickets — was clear and easy to read.
Posters were displayed around local venues, community spaces, and shared online to help promote the event. Thanks to everyone's support, the concert was well-attended and helped raise valuable funds for Breast Cancer Now and Doncaster Mind.
Designing the materials for the Boobs & Brass charity concert was a really rewarding experience. One of the main things I focused on was creating designs that felt vibrant, uplifting, and true to the band's incredible spirit and mission. It was a fun challenge to balance all of the important information, like the event details and advertisements, especially in smaller formats like the tickets and programmes, but I’m really proud of how everything came together.
It was lovely to see the posters displayed around the community and hear positive feedback from people on the night. I also received some wonderful feedback from Alan, who organised the event, which made the experience even more special. Hearing how much the materials were appreciated and knowing they helped bring the event to life made all the work feel incredibly worthwhile.
